Building a Financial Legacy for LCYC

Our Purpose

The Les Cheneaux Yacht Club is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  This not-for-profit foundation was founded in 2024 for the purpose of raising and distributing funds to:

  • Provide education opportunities to amateur boaters through instruction, safety, instructor training, competition, scholarships, grants and access to the water

  • Preserve the historical and natural interest of the LCYC property and it’s surrounding environment

  • Perpetuate of the memory of past and present LCYC members and their families

Directors leading the Foundation are members of the Les Cheneaux Yacht Club and are chartered to work  alongside the Les Cheneaux Yacht Club.

  • Promoting Amateur Sailing

The many sailing programs of the LCYC can be further supported by the LCYC Foundation. THis could include scholarships for youth sailing, US Sailing Certification training for instructors, purchase of equipment and infrastructure to insure safe access for our boating programs, funding regattas, supporting our youth in amateur racing events and so much more.

  • Preserving Historical Buildings and Grounds

The beautiful and historical yacht club building and grounds are a part of the unique legacy of the LCYC in the Les Cheneaux Islands. Our ability to help preserve these facilities is an important part of maintaining the yacht clubs' operations and program legacy for future generations to continue to enjoy.

  • Perpetuating the Memory of LCYC Members and Families

Specific donations can be made to commemorate the legacy of LCYC members and past members.

FAQs

Why do we need a foundation?

The costs associated with maintaining and improving the Les Cheneaux Yacht Club facilities and programs continue to grow. Members dues are covering the operating costs but leave little left for large maintenance or improvement projects. By providing a tax deduction for donations we are hoping for increased member generosity by expanding our member’s giving options to private corporations and foundations that may be only able to give to 501(c)(3) organizations. Additionally, people can now give gifts from their estate upon their death, and it is deductible from their estate, as part of the death tax exemption, while also helping to carry forward their family’s legacy at LCYC into the future.

Will the foundation affect the sailing camp?

The Junior Sailing Camp is operated by the Yacht Club and that is not changing.  Your support of the Foundation is welcome and appreciated, as increased funding can improve the facilities, boats, and instruction used by the sailing camp

Can I designate my donation for a specific cause?

The Foundation Board will make every effort to utilize any funds where specified as long as they fall within the purpose of the foundation and meet a need expressed by the Yacht Club.

Can I still donate to the LCYC directly?

Of course! Any donations sent directly to the LCYC will help members’ dues go further in improving the YC facilities and programs. These donations will not be tax deductible.
